The green flash — the Sun sets, it does not sail away

The claim

“The Sun does not set. It recedes into the distance and perspective drops it to the horizon, where it winks out.”

What is measured

The green flash is sunlight bent and split by a long, grazing path through the air. It happens when the Sun goes down behind the edge of the world, and it has no cause at all if the Sun is only drifting away across a flat plane.

What would show this is wrong

a receding light source, filmed moving away over a long distance, that flashes green as it dims. Or a physical account of the green flash that does not require the Sun’s light to cross a long, grazing atmospheric path.
